Tim Cahill to join New York Red Bulls

Everton confirmed yesterday that star Aussie midfielder Tim Cahill is set to join the New York Red Bulls.

The Everton website said, "Everton have agreed with Major League Soccer that Tim Cahill can be transferred to the New York Red Bulls," the Toffees official website stated.

"Tim, 32, will move to the Red Bulls for a nominal fee, subject to agreeing personal terms and passing a medical. He will travel to the US in the next few days."

The MLS club acknowledged Everton's release but refused to confirm the news.

"We are aware of Everton's statement regarding midfielder Tim Cahill and our club," the Red Bulls said.

"However, we have no comments at this time regarding him or any other non-New York player."

Cahill represented Everton 278 times since moving from Millwall in 2004, scoring 68 goals but could manage only 3 last season.

Reports suggest that the fee will be around 1 million Pounds (1.51 million Dollars).

Cahill, who had two years to run on his contract with the Merseyside outfit, will link up with former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry at the New York outfit.
